Kelly Sullivan brings a strong sense of nonprofit know-how to her work as editor of Nonprofit Business Advisor and Federal Grants and Contracts.
For more than a decade, she used her editorial and teaching skills to
improve the lives of those in the nonprofit and public arenas. She’s
taught English at the community-college and university levels, coached
and facilitated Person-Centered-Planning meetings for people with
developmental disabilities and their families, and managed various
vocational, residential and adult-day training programs at organizations
such as The Arc Northern Chesapeake Region in the mid-Atlantic.
In 2004, Kelly successfully transferred those skills to a career in
publishing by interviewing experts in the nonprofit sector and providing
practical guidance and best-practice solutions to nonprofit
professionals. She’s written and edited hundreds of articles for a
variety of nonprofit-related newsletters and manuals on topics such as
leadership, board governance, fundraising, grantwriting and nonprofit
executive compensation, and is the managing editor of sister
publications Corporate Philanthropy Report and Board & Administrator for Administrators Only. She is also responsible for the nonprofit group's social media activities.
She is a magna cum laude graduate of East Carolina University and is currently
completing a Certificate of Journalism through the University of
Massachusetts-Amherst. Kelly is the recipient of an ECU Award
for Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant in English; a Maryland
Association of Community Services Award (MACS); and a
number of specialty-publication awards for reporting and editing, including the 2013
APEX Award for Publication Excellence-Feature Writing.
